RACE REPORT | F1 Miami 2024

Lando Norris of McLaren took advantage of a safety car deployment timing in Miami to claim his first F1 victory.

The Miami Grand Prix was the second race weekend of the 2024 season, which included a sprint race. On Saturday, reigning world champion Max Verstappen emerged as the winner, also securing pole position for the main race.

Verstappen retained his lead after the start of Sunday's race, although it was dramatic behind him as Sergio Pérez caused chaos in the first corner. While there was no collision, Oscar Piastri capitalized, moving up to third position and subsequently to second.

In lap 22, Verstappen made an error, cutting a chicane and hitting a cone, which led to the activation of the virtual safety car. Verstappen took advantage of this situation to pit, returning to the track in fourth position.

At the beginning of lap 28, both Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz made their pit stops. Both drivers opted for hard tires and returned to the track in fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Then came a crucial moment in the race. Following the collision between Magnussen and Sargeant, the safety car was deployed. Norris took advantage of this opportunity to pit, gaining a significant advantage over his competitors by changing tires during the neutralization of the race, saving a lot of time. The Brit took the lead and held onto it even after the restart in lap 32.

Meanwhile, Lando Norris built a comfortable lead over second-placed Max Verstappen. The McLaren driver controlled the situation and headed towards his first Formula 1 victory.

Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc secured second and third place, respectively. Pérez finished in fourth place after Sainz was penalized.
